“[T]he ten-year occupation of Afghanistan has been notable for the hyperbole relied upon by America's compliant media as well as its brazen inconsistency.” ~Ted Rall Dear Farhad, We couldn’t agree more! On Common Dreams today, Ted Rall highlights the level of complicity of the corporate media in helping to sell the public on the ten year war of aggression in Afghanistan. As he points out, “all wars demand contempt for The Other”. But when waging a war of naked, unprovoked aggression there is a need to rely on an even higher level of enemy dehumanization than usual in order to maintain political support for the sacrifices on “our side” that occur. And, unfortunately, the corporate media has been doing their part in this scenario. Common Dreams has been committed to shedding light on these critical issues, and to publicizing the analysis and actions of the people who are fighting back against the corporate machine. Common Dreams was here for you in the dark days of 2001 before Bush's global “war on terror” began, highlighting the lies in the administration’s post 9/11 arguments. And we will be here for you after we bring this too long nightmare to an end. We need to raise $50,000 this month to meet our quarterly budget and stay on track financially, and we still have $15,500 to go. Can you sustain the effort by making a donation today? We truly can’t do it without you! Malory Shaughnessy on behalf of the whole Common Dreams team PS. To print our contribution form and send a check click here. All contributions are tax deductible.
